Dear Robert, Right now in Batil and Yida refugee camps in South Sudan, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams are treating more than 1,800 children for malnutrition. Our medical teams in the field use simple tools like color-coded arm bands to help quickly identify malnourished children, and we provide 33-cent packets of nutrient-enriched, ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) to treat them fast. Donate now to help Doctors Without Borders deliver therapeutic foods and emergency medical treatment to children suffering from malnutrition and bring urgent care to people in nearly 70 countries around the world. Children under five are the most vulnerable to malnutrition because they need specific nutrients to survive and thrive. At least five children under five years of age die of malnutrition-related causes every minute because it leaves them far more susceptible to disease. Doctors Without Borders treats the majority of malnourished children with packets of RUTF – which we provide to mothers to heal their children at home. We hospitalize only the most severely malnourished children who also suffer from diseases such as tuberculosis, and provide them with intensive, round-the-clock treatment. In the Batil and Yida refugee camp in South Sudan, our teams helped reduce death rates from catastrophic levels, though much more still needs to be done.
