Target, Kohl’s Are Hiring More Than 100,000 Seasonal Workers

Target, Kohl’s Are Hiring More Than 100,000 Seasonal Workers

Major U.S. retailers Kohl’s and Target plan on making it a happy holiday for many folks around the country by hiring more than 100,000 holiday employees, reports The Wall Street Journal.

Although Target, one of America’s favorite department stores, plans to employ 80,000 to 90,000 seasonal workers to help with the holiday crowds, its numbers are actually down from last year’s hirings, which stood at a robust 92,000.

Kohl’s, the country’s 20th largest retailer, plans to increase its holiday temps by hiring 10 percent more than they did last year.  Even though the Wisconsin-based retailer has been struggling sales-wise, they plan on adding at least 41 holiday hires per store across its 1,146 locations nationwide.

In addition to increasing its personnel at the retail level, Kohl’s expects to also fill 5,700 spots at its distribution centers and has created 30 openings at its credit operations.

Target may be hiring less holiday employees this year but the retailer states that at least 30 percent of its seasonal workers last year stayed the course with the company.

Kohl’s is already in the throes of its holiday-hiring campaign, which should run until about mid-November.  Employees can choose to work from a few hours to more than 20 per week.  Jobs at Kohl’s run-the-gamut, including sales, unloading trucks,  freight processing, stocking, and cashiering.

Management consultants the Hay Group conducted a survey among retailers nationwide, and they discovered that  57 percent expect to hire about the same number of seasonal workers as last year.  At least 43 percent of retailers plan to use more permanent workers this holiday season than seasonal ones, up from 19 percent a year ago.
