Fw: Notify NYC - Notification

Notification issued 7/8/13 at 7:15 PM. Brookhaven National Laboratory with NYPD will begin installing air sampling equipment Tuesday morning as part of a study called "Subway-Surface Air Flow Exchange." Air sampling will be conducted in parts of the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and in Manhattan. In addition, researchers will disperse low concentrations of harmless gases known as perfluorocarbons at several subway and street-level locations in Manhattan for 30 minutes only during the morning. Poor Teyana. Why can’t some black people act right?

According to The NY Post

Shooting At Teyana Taylor’s Cookout

It’s not a July 4th cookout until someone catches a mean slug. Does the heat make some black people crazy? Damn homie it’s the July 4th cookout not World War 3. Calm that isht down.

A 200-person party hosted by local rapper Teyana Taylor in Morningside Park descended into mayhem late yesterday — leaving one cop hurt and another reveler arrested, police and attendees said.

The crowd gathered around 9pm at West 120th Street and Morningside Avenue and quickly got out of hand, party-goers said in Facebook posts.

“It’s like LA (cali) after a riot out here at Morningside park. Police everywhere. Helicopters in the sky. Madness,” posted Aaron Rose.

The mob first occupied the park, then moved on to the West Side Highway and attempted to climb the fences of Riverbank State Park.

A Housing sergeant injured his shoulder trying to quell the crowd, and a 14-year-old was arrested for firing a gun into the air, police said.

“They just shot Teyana Taylor cookout up,” read one post on Twitter, while another noted “After it got dark teyana taylor cookout got mixxy lol ..had to leave.”

Taylor recently signed to Kanye West’s music label.

Ninjas shooting up the movie theater, the cookout, the club….what’s next? Maybe bullets should cost like $5,000 and then people would think twice about firing a gun into a crowd. That’s some punk isht.

NYPD Downgrades Crimes Despite Its Best Efforts, Report Finds

NYPD Downgrades Crimes Despite Its Best Efforts, Report Finds

The NYPD has been plagued over the last year or so by reports that its officers were manipulating crime statistics by downgrading felonies to less serious crimes. It's a problem the department itself has been monitoring, in a two-year external study ordered by Commissioner Ray Kelly and revealed on Tuesday. The report found that while the department takes great care to audit its own statistics, most of its efforts focus on "human error," meaning accidental mistakes, according to the New York Times. "But for 'an officer who wishes to manipulate crime reporting,' the report said there were 'few other procedures in place that control the various avenues of potential manipulation.' "

From The Times:

The 60-page report describes several instances of manipulation in which felony crimes were marked down as misdemeanors. In one instance “a desk officer scratched out the item values in order to bring the total to below the $1,000 threshold for grand larceny,” which is a felony.

In another instance, police paperwork for lost property “described a complainant who ‘lost property’ following an assault by multiple individuals,” according to the report, which added, “On its face the narrative appears to describe a robbery.”

The effect of the misclassified crimes can be seen in the department's statistics, The Wall Street Journal adds. While the department releases the rates of misclassified crimes, it doesn't show how those errors affect its official numbers: "According to the report, in 2010, when 1.6% of cases were misclassified, robberies were found by the NYPD to have an error rate of 2.1%. The NYPD statistics from that year didn't factor in the error rate, and reported robberies rose 4.8%, when they should have shown that robberies increased 5.4% that year."

The report demonstrates a new willingness by Kelly to open his department up to outside scrutiny, something the City Council has voted to impose on the NYPD anyway in the form of an inspector general. When asked at a news conference whether officers intentionally manipulated crime reports, Kelly replied, "the answer is, from time to time yes."

Prada Cast A Black Campaign Model For The First Time In 19 Years

Prada Cast A Black Campaign Model For The First Time In 19 Years

Christy Turlington's inclusion in this fall's Prada campaign is the main focus of Women's Wear Daily's story on the new ads — but forgive us if we think the venerable trade is guilty in this instance of burying the lede. The real news here is that, for the first time since the fall of 1994, there's a black face of Prada.

The black model in the campaign, one of seven models who appear in the new ads, goes unnamed in WWD's story. She is Malaika Firth, a Kenyan-born, U.K.-raised, biracial 19-year-old who has been modeling since 2011. Firth was a newborn in diapers the last time a black woman was a face of Prada. Prada's fall ads also include the Chinese model Fei Fei Sun.
