TONIGHT:
A reprise of Richard Rogers' fascinating 75 year old Inwood home movies
with new footage!
This month at Lost Inwood we'll present one of our most requested favorites; the annual showing of Richard Roberts' Tubby Hook home movies from the 1930s. They've been a perennial favorite at history night ever since their first showing in 2009.
If you don't know the story, Roberts grew up in one of the boathouses at the foot of Dyckman Street, and these digitized 16mm reels, combined with Roberts' inimitable, hilarious narration, bring to life the vibrant boat racing and riverfront scene that was Tubby Hook in the early 1900s.
And this year, there's a twist. We've carefully gone over the original digitized reels and unearthed several minutes of new, never-before-seen footage - including action from Van Cortland Park and the Hudson River boathouses which used to crowd the shoreline just below the George Washington Bridge.
