Stanley Wright, missing Brooklyn jazz musician, found dead, stuffed in storage trunk in his basement

Stanley Wright was an acclaimed jazz musician.

A Brooklyn jazz musician who had been missing since last week was found dead Tuesday inside of a storage chest, police and relatives said.

Stanley Wright, 62, had been missing since Thursday. His family reported his disappearance to police early Tuesday. Cops checked his home on Chauncey St. in Brownsville about 3:30 a.m. and found his body.

Police haven't classified Wright's death as a homicide, but his family suspects foul play.

"This is crazy?" said his great-niece, Minnie Wright. "Who would do something like that to him? He was a musician. He was a great man."

Wright, who performed under the name Suleiman-Hakim, was found in an old black chest once used to store his mother's clothes. The chest was in the basement where a window was missing.

Relatives said Wright, a widower, lived alone. He had two cats.

Wright once taught music at a Brooklyn junior high school, and his talents as a jazz musician allowed him to play at famous venues like Lincoln Center, his family said. He played the bass, piano and drums.

The jazzman was the father of three children, including actress N'Bushe Wright who co-starred in the movie "Blade" in 1998 and appeared in "Dead Presidents" in 1995. She was flying to New York from the West Coast on Tuesday.

The medical examiner's office will determine the cause of death.
