Marc Brandenburg: Version Opening Reception
LOCATION: Goethe-Institut Wyoming Building, 5 East 3rd Street (between Bowery and 2nd Ave)
Join us for the opening reception of Marc Brandenburg: Version. This exhibition is the final iteration of OFF/SITE, a collaboration between The Studio Museum in Harlem and the Goethe-Institut New York. The exhibition will be on view at the Goethe-Institut Wyoming Building from May 6 to June 4, 2011. The gallery is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 1-6pm.
OFF/SITE is a collaboration between The Studio Museum in Harlem and the Goethe-Institut New York, comprising two site-specific artist projects and one public program series. Marc Brandenburg: Version is the second artist project to occur at the Goethe-Institut Wyoming Building in the East Village.
The opening reception is free and open to the public.

Head to the Museum’s Main Gallery for an informative, participatory tour of Stephen Burks: Man Made, a unique project that furthers industrial designer Stephen Burks’s ongoing exploration of the global economy of artisanal craft. The tour will have something for everyone: adults, families, and kids of all ages are welcome!

Can ordinary objects be considered art? Is there a difference between art and design? Inspired by Stephen Burks: Man Made, join Museum Educator, Therese Christophe, as she walks us through the art of weaving to make a placemat out of felt and paper.

Intersections: Conversations on Art and Culture
A Discussion with Misty Copeland and Raven Wilkinson moderated by Brenda Dixon Gottschild
Join us for a special discussion about art and dance with Misty Copeland, the first African-American female soloist for the American Ballet Theatre, and Raven Wilkinson, the first African-American ballerina to become a member of a major ballet company. Brenda Dixon Gottschild, writer, former dancer, and Professor Emerita at Temple University, will moderate the discussion. Guests are encouraged to arrive early and visit the galleries before the discussion. Professor Dixon Gottschild will sign copies of her books from 8:30 till closing.
Admission is FREE. Seating is first come, first served. Please make sure to arrive early as your RSVP does not guarantee you a confirmed seat.

Spring is the perfect time to experience Harlem! Join us for an intimate tour of this rich neighborhood with architectural preservationist and Harlem resident John Reddick. The tour will begin in the Museum's galleries and continue on to the sidewalks of Harlem, where Reddick will focus on the notable landmarks that make up Harlem's historical landscape.
