Sundays at the Studio Museum are always free, thanks to Target. 1–6pm: Artists-in-Residence Open Studios: Steffani Jemison, Jennifer Packer, and Cullen Washington Jr. Please join us to see work in progress by our current artists in residence Steffani Jemison, Jennifer Packer and Cullen Washington Jr. Since 1968, the Studio Museum has earned recognition for its catalytic role in advancing the work of visual artists of African and Latino descent through its Artist-in-Residence program. The program has supported over one hundred graduates who have gone on to highly regarded careers.   1pm: Gallery Tour: Ayé A. Aton: Space-Time Continuum and Mendi + Keith Obadike: American Cypher   Enjoy an interactive and informative tour of Ayé A. Aton: Space-Time Continuum and Mendi + Keith Obadike: American Cypher with a knowledgeable museum educator. Ayé A. Aton: Space-Time Continuum presents a collection of over 200 slides, documenting Ayé A. Aton (b. 1940) murals, painted between 1963 and 1976 through image and sound, providing an intimate glimpse into the domestic lives of an African-American community on the cusp of cultural transformation. Mendi + Keith Obadike: American Cypher is a site-specific suite of projects that respond to American stories about race and DNA by the intermedia artists Mendi and Keith Obadike (both b. 1973). The tour will have something for everyone: adults, families and kids of all ages are welcome! 2pm: Hands On: Futuristic Assemblages Learn more about the work of artist and musician Ayé A. Aton, a pioneer of the Afrofuturism movement. In this workshop, space is the place and we will make futuristic collages inspired by Aton's work!  Limited tickets available!  A limited number of discounted tickets are available to Studio Museum patrons. Courtesy the artist Upcoming at the Studio Museum Target Free Sundays April 28, 2013 1pm: Gallery Tour: David Hartt: Stray Light Enjoy an interactive and informative tour of David Hartt: Stray Light with a knowledgeable museum educator. David Hartt: Stray Light presents color photographs, sculptures and a video installation by Chicago-based conceptual photographer David Hartt (b. 1967) reflecting on the iconic headquarters of the Johnson Publishing Company in downtown Chicago, home to Ebony and Jet magazines. 2pm: Hands On: Decorate the Space Enjoy the 1pm tour of David Hartt: Stray Light then join us in a workshop to create a three-dimensional space. Re-purpose cardstock and other fun materials to create three-dimensional spaces to decorate. Tuesday, April 30, 2013 7pm: Harlem U.S.A.: Dawoud Bey in Conversation with Sharifa Rhodes-Pitt In his book Harlem, U.S.A, Dawoud Bey (b. 1953) takes viewers on a journey through this historic neighborhood. This event includes a conversation between Bey and author Sharifa Rhodes-Pitt, a guided tour of current exhibitions and a cocktail reception. This program is presented in conjunction with the Symphony Space Harlem Resonance Festival.  A limited number of discounted tickets are available to Studio Museum patrons.
