The U.S. Department of Justice is preparing to accept applications from candidates for the post of Deputy U.S. Marshal. The announcement will be posted on the www.usajobs.gov website on March 5 and will remain open for five days or until 5,000 applications have been received. No application fee is required.
Deputy U.S. Marshals are hired at pay grade 7 for law-enforcement officers, earning $38,511 to $48,708 depending on the geographic location to which they are assigned. After a year, they can be promoted to pay grade 8, then to grade 9 a year after that, then to grades GS-11 and GS-12. Starting pay for grade 12 runs from $66,910 to $81,460, depending on location. Benefits include retirement with a pension after 25 years, annual leave, sick leave, life insurance and a health-care program.
