500,000 city kids in families that can’t afford  food, up 37% from 2008

More and more New Yorkers are dealing with hunger and dire need, the latest statistics show. The number of children living in families that can’t afford food surged to 500,000 - one in four city kids - between 2008 and 2010, Crain’s New York reported.
