The Disappearing Mary J Blige Chicken Commercial

The Disappearing Mary J Blige Chicken Commercial

The disappearing Mary J. Blige chicken commercial: "Crispy chicken, fresh lettuce, three cheeses, ranch dressing, wrapped up in a tasty, flour tortilla," Mary J. Blige sang in a new Burger King commercial that premiered this week. Watch it here. But after some negative backlash on Twitter, the ad has disappeared from YouTube. In honor of the dustup, Hip Hop Wired pulled together this list of 10 other "stereotype-enforcing friend chicken commercials."

Chad Ochocinco Takes 200 Strangers Out To Dinner

Chad Ochocinco Takes 200 Strangers Out To Dinner

New England Patriot Chad Ochocinco has asked many questions."How did [Obama] manage to memorize so much material?" he wondered during his live-tweet of the State of the Union in January. "Is it possible to find Neapolitan Mastiffs this big," he pondered, linking to a picture of an enormous dog, "and if so do you think they're bred in the states."

At 4:13 PM this afternoon, the ever-eccentric wide receiver issued a statement, not a question, to his 3,297,121 Twitter followers: "Dinner in NY tonight 1st 200 people at Sylvia's Restaurant by 7 pm in Harlem. Leave ya money/credit cards at home."

The line at Sylvia's, the famous soul food restaurant in Harlem, was around the block within twenty minutes, according to Trenness Woods-Black, granddaughter of Sylvia "Queen of Soulfood" Woods herself, who also handles the restaurant's communications. She told us this evening that Ochocinco gave Sylvia's a call to let them know he was coming to New York -- "he loves us and we love him too" -- and wanted to know how many people he could host for dinner. Woods-Black told him 200 was fine, and the line started snaking around the block minutes after Ochocinco's tweet.

Ochocinco's guests ate well. "We served our most popular items," Woods-Black said, "barbeque ribs, fried chicken, mac and cheese, corn bread, iced tea, cocktails..." Cake Man Raven brought 200 red velvet cupcakes for dessert. Ochocinco seemed pleased with the evening, and gave out his phone number to all 200 guests. "Now I have 200 new friends..." he Tweeted, "now that shit is #Epic or #Crazy." We'll have what he's having.

HARLEM — Councilwoman Inez Dickens has called for a boycott of a new French restaurant in Harlem, accusing the upscale uptown eatery of moving a group of black women to accommodate a group of white patrons earlier this month.

At one point the group at Cedric Bistro included deputy Manhattan Borough President Rosemonde Pierre-Louis, but she left before the women were moved.  However, she was called back to the restaurant by her friends later in the evening as the dispute over the move raged in the trendy spot.

In a tersely worded letter to the restaurant, which opened on St. Nicholas Avenue near 119th Street five months ago to rave reviews, Dickens accuses the owners of racism for moving the party of five high-powered black women on Feb 4.

"Racism against anyone in my community, in my district on my watch due to race, color, creed, sexual preference or perceived economic status is unacceptable," Dickens wrote in her Feb. 9 letter to the restaurant's co-owner Cedric Lecendre, who is white.

Mamajuana Cafe Beating Victim Will 'Never Be The Same,' Family Says

Mamajuana Cafe Beating Victim Will 'Never Be The Same,' Family Says

January 25, 2012 1:17pm | By Carla Zanoni, DNAinfo Social Media Editor

UPPER MANHATTAN — The family of a man beaten into a coma at controversial nightspot Mamajuana Cafe described Tuesday how he was viciously attacked by drunk patrons.

The emotional testimony was given as Community Board 12 refused to back an application for a new liquor license for a sister restaurant of the Inwood joint.

“He will never be the same again,” Lisa Veloz said about her brother Edwin, 23, who has been in a coma since he was beaten on Jan. 8 during a birthday celebration at the Dyckman Street restaurant.

The Veloz family, including cousins who were at the eatery with the victim at the time of the incident, accused Mamajuana Cafe's management of serving the suspects alcohol well after they were visibly intoxicated.

Community Board 12 voted down a resolution to recommend the approval of Mamajuana Cafe's liquor license for a new high-end Italian restaurant at 1 Nagle Avenue. (harlemonestop.com)

“They were served shot after shot after shot,” a family spokeswoman told the community board, adding that the bouncers added insult to injury when they mishandled the aftermath of the melee.

Outdoor patio at Harlem restaurant remains popular - even in the winter

When Harlem Tavern opened last summer, it was the place to be uptown - especially the spacious outdoor patio. But it left customers constantly asking employees the same question what would happen to the outdoor space when the weather turned cold?
