UPPER WEST SIDE BARNES & NOBLE COLLABORATES WITH THE 17TH ANNUAL HARLEM BOOK FAIR: READING THE WORLD
New York, NY (BlackNews.com) -- Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE: BKS), the nation's largest retail bookseller and the leading retailer of content, digital media and educational products, today announced that the Barnes & Noble Upper West Side store, located at 2289 Broadway in New York City, is collaborating with the Harlem Book Fair (HBF) to broaden the platform for authors and publishers into the African-American reader community. Barnes & Noble will support the Harlem Book Fair with in store events on July 14th, 15th and 16th, leading up to the nationally recognized literary festival.
The Harlem Book Fair, now in its 17th year, is the nationÂ's largest and most-respected African-American literary festival and will take place this year in a variety of indoor and outdoor venues from Friday, July 17, to Sunday, July 19, on West 135th Street from Lenox Avenue (6th Avenue) to Frederick Douglass, Jr. Boulevard (8th Avenue) in Harlem, New York. Attended by over 20,000 readers and viewed by millions on C-SPANÂ's BookTV, the Harlem Book Fair stands as the nationÂ's flagship African-American public literary event.
On July 18, during the Harlem Book Fair, Barnes & Noble will donate a percentage of every sale made with a special bookfair voucher to the book fair. Vouchers will be available online at the Harlem Book FairÂ's website (www.harlembookfair.com) and in hard copy during the book fair. Customers can also shop in support of the Harlem Book Fair online at www.bn.com/bookfairs between July 14-23, and include the bookfair voucher ID on the payment page during checkout. Barnes & Noble will also be the exclusive book vendor for offsite event sales, and will host several in-store events at the Upper West Side store.
In-store Book Fair Launch and Panel Discussions at the Upper West Side Store
The Harlem Book Fair will officially launch its program with engaging readings and book discussions at the Upper West Side Barnes & Noble on Tuesday, July 14, at 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 15, at 7 p.m., and Thursday, July 16, at 7 p.m. Several authors will present and sign their new titles during these events.
Harlem Book Fair
On Saturday, July 18, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Barnes & Noble will be the exclusive bookseller for the book fair with author discussions throughout the day. With support from customers, Barnes & Noble will donate a portion of the proceeds from sales to the Harlem Book Fair. There will be many more events with panel discussions at various locations, including Columbia University, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and Harlem Hospital, with participation by C-SPAN and many more sponsors.
