Radio Struggles For New Ideas
Those are the words of Radio One CEO Alfred Liggins after watching several radio companies copy his new Hip Hop format called BOOM. Radio One has even filed a laswsuit against Flinn Broadcasting, claiming the company stole everything about the format, right down to a near identical logo. "We launched it, then everyone else followed us. A lot of people in radio are struggling for new ideas. We're an Urban radio operator. We reach 82% of Black America. We have a great story. It's (BOOM) part of our arsenal. For some of the other folks, it will be an orphan." Liggins says BOOM compliments other Urban formats it already has in several of its markets and he credits the format for turning around the company's revenue woes in Houston.
